YouTube Collections ("the Extension") is a browser extension that helps you organize your YouTube subscriptions into custom categories and filter your subscription feed. This privacy policy explains what information the Extension collects, how it's used, and how it's protected.
Data Collection
The Extension collects and stores the following information locally on your device:
- Category names you create
- Icons and colors you assign to categories
- Category IDs (generated internally)
Channel Information
The Extension collects and stores the following information locally on your device:
- Channel IDs extracted from YouTube subscription pages
- Channel names as displayed on YouTube
- Channel thumbnail image URLs
- Your assignments of channels to categories
Filter Preferences
The Extension collects and stores the following information locally on your device:
- Active category filters selected during your browsing session
- Filter preferences are cleared when you close your browser
How Data is Collected
Data is collected in the following ways:
- Manual Input: When you create categories and assign channels to them
- Automatic Detection: When you visit the YouTube Channels page (`/feed/channels`), the Extension scans the page to detect your subscribed channels
- Browser Storage: All data is stored locally using Chrome's storage API
How Data is Used
Your data is used exclusively for the Extension's core functionality:
- To organize your YouTube subscriptions into custom categories
- To filter your YouTube subscription feed based on selected categories
- To persist your category and channel assignments across browser sessions
- To remember your preferences while browsing
Data Sharing and Transmission
The Extension does NOT:
- Transmit any data to external servers
- Share your data with third parties
- Sell or monetize your data
- Use your data for advertising or marketing purposes
- Collect analytics or tracking information
- Access your YouTube account credentials or authentication data
- Access information from websites other than YouTube
All data processing happens entirely on your device.
Required Permissions
The Extension requires the following permissions:
- Storage Permission: To save your categories, channel assignments, and preferences locally on your device
- Host Permission for youtube.com: To access YouTube pages for:
- Detecting your subscribed channels on the Channels page
- Injecting the filtering interface on the Subscriptions feed page
- Reading channel and video information to apply filters
User Rights and Data Control
You have full control over your data:
- View Your Data: All data is accessible through the Extension's settings interface
- Delete Categories: You can delete categories at any time, which removes them from associated channels
- Clear All Data: Uninstall the Extension to remove all stored data, or clear Chrome's extension storage manually
- Export Data: You can export your data in a JSON format at any time.
Data Retention
- Categories and channel assignments are stored indefinitely until you delete them or uninstall the Extension
- Active filter preferences are cleared when you close your browser
- When you uninstall the Extension, all data is permanently deleted
Security
All data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage mechanisms. The Extension does not implement additional security measures beyond Chrome's native storage protection, as no data is transmitted over networks.
Children's Privacy
The Extension does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided information to the Extension, and want it removed, uninstall the Extension. If you have any questions, please contact us.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top indicates when the policy was last revised. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
Third-Party Services
The Extension does not integrate with any third-party services, analytics platforms, or external APIs. All functionality is self-contained within the Extension.
